The idea was simple, start a photography group where we could ask amazing photographers to do live presentations of their work, their process and provide hints and tips to other photographers. We hoped this would help to inspire, motivate and spark ideas so that photographers could emerge not only surviving but with renewed passion and fire in our hearts.

At midnight on the 26th of March 2020, we launched a Facebook group.
90 days later we had 2858 members and after 120 days this has grown to over 3500 members.

So how do we continue this incredible initiative?

We will continue to provide the Hunters of Light platform for as long as we can and thanks goes out to all those paid subscribers on the website, to the brands that support us with content and promotions and above all, Canon South Africa for providing prizes for the competitions.

Going forward we have decided that all areas of the website will be freely available.

Those choosing to get more in-depth features, access to giveaways and competitions will be able to do so by becoming Patreon members. By becoming a Patreon member you are not only receiving additional content and services, but you are helping us keep the dream alive and we want to reward you for believing in and supporting the Hunters of Light Initiative.

There are 4 levels you can support the Hunters of Light on Patreon.

Patreon Members will be first in line with special offers, partner discounts and workshops and we hope to add to these over time based on your requests.

Cost: $2 per month

As an f2 Patreon you will:

• help us continue to curate the content on the Hunters of Light
• help us support photographers of all levels

Cost: $8 per month

As an f8 Patreon you will:

• have first-look and/or exclusive access to competitions, workshops and tutorials offered by the Hunters of Light Initiative.
• be able to Ask a PRO and ask your photography and video related questions
• be supporting the Hunters of Light Initiative
• be eligible for giveaways

f16
Cost: $16 per month

Do you know the Sunny 16 rule in photography? If your ISO is 200 at f/16, then your shutter speed will be 1/200 seconds. If your ISO is 100, then your shutter speed will be 1/100 seconds. A pretty cool rule to help you meter for correct exposure during daylight without using the camera’s meter 🙂

• be able to ask our experts to edit your RAW file and add their signature edit to your image.

Ask a PRO – Your questions answered

As part of our educate, motivate & inspire mission at the Hunters of Light we are providing our Patron members the opportunity to ask your questions and get responses from professionals that know their stuff. Your questions can range across all aspects of the photo industry: gear, marketing, vision, pricing, branding, light, models, work/life balance, technical advice, post production, anything you have questions about.
We would like to help you get ahead and improve your photography / kickstart your business / shoot in manual – whatever you have questions about, submit them using the form and our team will respond with a solution.

Workshops

We will be adding a range of workshops from weekend getaways to exotic locations as well as half day and full day workshops. The workshops will be smaller groups so that you get more hands on attention and there are more opportunities to get your questions answered during the workshop.

Portfolio reviews

Is your portfolio for personal consumption, would you like to sell your images or are you trying to book jobs?
Our group of experts will review your portfolio and provide valuable insights into improvements that can help to wow your friends or book a job in Iceland shooting the new Audi RS3.

Edit my RAW file

So you have photographed an amazing, once in a lifetime image, but are wondering if your edit is showing off your photograph in the best way.
Submit your image and our experts will add their signature edit to your image and lets see just how many ways there are to skin a cat.
Show your work, get booked, repeat

Get your own portfolio website.

Patron members are eligible for 1 month off their very own LIGHTBOX website. It is their goal that every photographer, creative type, foodie, pottery studio, bike shop, fashion designer (you get the picture) should have a place on the interwebs. It is super easy, no code, no nonsense, just beautiful websites.

1-2-1 Access

Have you ever wanted to ask questions and get the 1-2-1 “royal treatment”, we have a solution for you.  You will have access to photographic tutoring and feedback on photography, branding, websites, SEO, etc, via email as well as ZOOM sessions.

Monthly challenges.

Every month we will set a challenges like “Shoot every single day for a month”, “Capturing Reflections” and “Tell a story in three photos”. Images are uploaded and discussed with the idea being to improve all our photography and find new ways of seeing the world around us.
